About the job

About Us
Truckchecker.ai is a fast-growing technology company creating innovative safety solutions for the heavy vehicle industry. Our platform uses computer vision and machine learning to detect safety issues and prevent dangerous wheel-off incidents. We’re now taking the next step: building and deploying plug-and-play monitoring units that integrate cameras, edge processing hardware, lighting, and 4G/5G connectivity.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on technician with a passion for building and deploying hardware systems. You’ll be involved from prototype through to production: assembling and configuring units in our Yackandandah facility, working with suppliers and fabricators to refine the design, and supporting on-site installation. This is a varied role where no two days are the same — from hardware build to networking setup to field deployment.
What You’ll Do
-
Assemble and configure hardware units (cameras, edge processors, networking, comms).
-
Collaborate with fabricators and suppliers on design refinements.
-
Integrate low-voltage lighting and power systems.
-
Prepare units for shipping and deployment.
-
Travel to customer sites (occasionally) to assist with installation and commissioning.
-
Test, troubleshoot, and improve system performance.
-
Document builds and contribute ideas for product improvements.
About You
-
Background in IT hardware, networking, or related technical field.
-
Comfortable with hands-on hardware assembly and troubleshooting.
-
Familiar with low-voltage electrical, CCTV, or IoT-style systems (nice to have).
-
Problem-solver who enjoys experimenting and finding practical solutions.
-
Able to work independently but also collaborate with partners and suppliers.
-
Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel for site installs.
Bonus Points For:
-
Experience with 4G/5G comms, edge computing hardware, or embedded systems.
-
Prior work in startups, hardware prototyping, or system deployment.
-
An innovative, tinkerer mindset — you like building things that work in the real world.
What We Offer
- Initially a temporary role, with a strong view to permanent as production increases.
-
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge tech that makes roads safer.
-
A startup environment: flexible, innovative, and fast-moving.
-
Variety in your work: from workshop builds to field installs.
-
The chance to grow with the business and shape how our hardware platform develops.
