VicRoads is progressing too. In August 2022, we started on a new chapter when the Victorian State Government partnered with Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, and Macquarie Asset Management to operate registration and licensing services on its behalf.

We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

  • Annual Salary Range: Up to $240,000 + Super

We are seeking a forward-thinking and influential individual to join our Strategy and Architecture team. In this pivotal role, you will partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and accelerate transformative opportunities across VicRoads. You will champion a culture of experimentation, foster collaboration, and guide the strategic adoption of emerging technologies – particularly AI – to create meaningful value for our customers and the organisation.

About the Opportunity

As a strategic technology leader, the Lead Solution Architect partners closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to ensure solution designs are seamlessly aligned with overarching architectural principles and long-term business strategies. This role leads a high-performing team of Solution Architects, driving the delivery of scalable, secure, and customer-centric solutions across diverse technology ecosystems.

With a strong emphasis on integration technologies and platform interoperability, the Lead Solution Architect champions innovation while maintaining a laser focus on enhancing the end-to-end customer experience. This role is pivotal in shaping the technical vision, fostering architectural excellence, and translating complex business needs into elegant, future-ready solutions.

  • Solution and Domain Design & Architecture: Oversee architecture across the Corporate domain, maintaining reference models and guiding Solution Architects to deliver effective, aligned solutions. Ensure strategic consistency with technology and business goals, while championing intuitive, reliable platforms that enhance the customer experience. Provide expert consultation on proposals and design reviews within the domain.
  • Governance & Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate architectural risks to ensure solutions are resilient, secure, and compliant. Implement standards, best practices, and governance frameworks to drive consistency, supported by architecture governance functions such as design authority forums.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with the enterprise architecture team to ensure solution designs align with strategic standards and governance. Build strong relationships with platform and business owners in the Corporate domain to ensure architectural planning and roadmaps reflect business needs
  • Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of Solution Architects, fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment. Manage resource allocation to meet strategic and project demands, and act as the primary technology contact across the Corporate landscape.

About you

You are a seasoned technology leader with a strong foundation in Information Management, Computer Science, or a related discipline, complemented by extensive experience managing enterprise-level programs focused on solution architecture uplift. Ideally, you hold a Master’s degree in Business or Technology and bring a strategic mindset to every challenge.

Your expertise spans across AWS, Azure, and SaaS platforms, with a proven ability to design and implement solutions that enhance both customer-facing platforms and internal systems. You’re passionate about aligning architectural decisions with business goals, ensuring every solution is both innovative and practical.

You thrive in leadership roles, having successfully led and coached high-performing teams of architects. Your interpersonal skills enable you to build strong relationships across cross-functional teams, and your communication style ensures complex technical concepts are clearly understood by all stakeholders.

You’re committed to continuous learning and staying ahead of industry trends, with a deep understanding of architectural best practices, governance frameworks, and integration strategies. Your experience in Agile delivery models, including DevSecOps and Human-Centered Design, positions you as a forward-thinking leader who can drive transformation in dynamic environments.
